His Royal Highness Prince Charles recently visited the Pukar Disability
Resource Centre in Preston to acknowledge the work undertaken by ProHelp and also to launch a new East Lancashire ProHelp. In his speech at the end of the visit His Royal Highness said that "The impact of Preston ProHelp has been so great that we are now able to launch a new East Lancashire ProHelp group".

The Pukar (Gujarati for voice) Centre caters for disabled people with learning disabilities from the Asian community and operates as a charitable organisation. Pukar has received support for the introduction of computer based accounting and payroll systems, a staff appraisal system and assistance with finding new premises, covering both valuation and structural survey. More details about this charity can be found at http://www.pukar.org.uk/ Pukar receives a Lottery grant and ProHelp now sit on the Management Committee as a Trustee to provide further help and support.

Another major ProHelp activity is the Preston ProHelp Awards / Headstart  event, which was established to enable organisations in the voluntary sector to consult the experts on a range of key issues affecting their organisation. The scheme brings community groups with similar problems together in a workshop format, so that professional staff can provide help to several organisations at the same time. Projects can also be followed up separately after the event with further support and more detailed advice and guidance by professional staff. Clinic sessions covering specific areas of interest have also been held.
